How to Create the Perfect L Curl Flick

Want to create a lifted, elongated lash look with that subtle, sexy flick at the outer corner? The secret is not simply adding longer lashes. It is choosing the right curls, controlling the direction and creating a smooth transition across the eye.

L curls are perfect for clients who want visible lift without an overly rounded finish. Their straighter base also gives you a generous bonding area, while the angled curl creates a clean, eyeliner-style effect.

The Lash Map We Used

For this model, we created a soft fox-eye effect using a combination of C, LC and LJ curls in 0.07.

From the inner to the outer corner, the main lash map was:

C 8mm → C 9mm → LC 10mm → LC 11mm → LC 12mm → LC 80% & LJ 20% 11mm → LC 80% & LJ 20% 10mm

We then added LJ 11mm and 10mm towards the outer corner to elongate the shape and create that beautifully defined flick.

The shorter CC curls softened the inner corner and allowed us to transition gradually into the stronger lift of the LC curl. Finishing with LJ helped extend the eye sideways without making the outer corner look heavy or droopy.

Why Mix Different L Curls?

Using only one curl throughout the entire set can sometimes make the result look too sharp or uniform. Mixing curls gives you more control over the finished shape.

LJ creates a softer, more subtle lift and is ideal for elongating the outer corner.
LC gives a more noticeable lift while keeping the look open, elegant and wearable.
LD creates the strongest lift and is perfect when your client wants extra drama.

By combining curls, you can customise the set to suit the client’s natural lashes, eye shape and desired finish.

Tips for Creating a Clean L Curl Flick

1. Work with the client’s natural lash direction

Do not rely on the curl to create the whole shape. Check how the natural lashes grow and adjust your placement accordingly. L curls are especially effective on straight or downward-growing lashes because the straight base sits neatly against the natural lash before lifting.

2. Direct the lashes towards the flick

Direction is everything with a fox-eye set. As you move towards the outer corner, gradually direct the extensions outwards. Keep the transition smooth so the flick looks intentional rather than suddenly changing direction.

3. Do not place the longest length at the very end

The longest section in this map is LC 12mm, positioned before the outer corner. We then reduced the lengths to 11mm and 10mm.

Tapering down at the end helps prevent the eye from looking dragged down. It also gives the flick a cleaner, sharper finish.

4. Blend the curl transition

When changing from CC to LC, avoid creating a sudden jump in curl or length. Use small sections and gradual length changes to keep the lash line balanced.

You can also layer a few LJ lashes through the outer section to soften the transition and extend the shape.

5. Keep the outer corner light

More length does not always create a better flick. Heavy fans at the outer corner can pull the eye down and make the set lose its shape. Use light, controlled fans and choose a safe length and weight for each natural lash.

6. Check the set from the front

During the appointment, sit the client up or check the lashes from the front whenever possible. This allows you to see whether both flicks are balanced and whether the longest points sit in the correct position.
